Sorry for the lack of posts..I have been visiting with my parents for the past week!
Monday: My parents got in about 4:30pm and we headed to the base hotel to check them in, then gave them a tour of our house the headed to dinner at Applebees to visit!
Tuesday: My parents and I headed to the commissary and got lots of groceries to make some fabulous dinners! We made lasagna on Tuesday night, after a search around Texas for italian sausage, my dad ended up using ground beef and pork, it came out delish!! We ended the night with a game of Scrabble which my dad dominated in!
Wednesday: My mom and I headed to the gym for a little workout. She rode the bike and I ran two miles. Then we cleaned up and got my dad and headed to Wal-mart to get some curtains and curtain rods for our front picture window. After Walmart, we stopped at the local winery, my first winery experience, and got a tour and history lesson of the winery and had a tasting! One of my friends in Texas works there and was very helpful! I actually liked two white wines, I am not a big wine drinker. After the winery, we headed back to the house to start making homemade chicken and biscuits. They came out delicious! Sorry no pics, but it was amazing and quite simple to make. Then we relaxed and watched the movie Grown Ups, which was pretty hilarious!
Thursday: Happy Veteran's Day! The hubby had the day off so we all go up bright and early and headed the 2 and half hours to San Antonio! We went to this beautiful shopping plaza called the Shoppes at La Cantera where we ventured into one of the most beautiful stores, Anthropologie!! Loved everything in the store, literally! We also checked out Nordstrom which is not in NY as well as Neiman Marcus. In Neiman Marcus, a girl with a tray of cupcakes came up to us asking if we wanted cupcakes and champagne! Crazy! One of my favorite stores, Urban Outfitters was there but I sadly didn't get anything but my mom got my sis something there...can't tell you what seeing my sis reads my blog and my parents haven't given her the present yet! Then we headed across the street to another wonderful shopping plaza with my beloved Target! It had been two long months since I had been in a Target...quite the tragedy! I ended up getting two merona cardigans, a red and a black one. And with a $5 coupon, it was a pretty good deal! I also got a pair of capri running pants from Old Navy for $12 thanks to the 30% off discount! The last store at this plaza was Homegoods which was beautiful! I got a beautiful home sweet home welcome sign as well as a plate stand for my signed bridal shower plate. After shopping we headed to Red Robin for some delicious burgers! We also stopped at an air force base in San Antonio to show my parents a large bx! On our way back home, we stopped at Applebees for dinner seeing we had two vets in the car and they got free meals! Long and eventful day!!
Friday: Hubby took my dad on a couple simulator rides and my mom and I checked out the bx on our base as well as made a yellow cake and chocolate frosting. Once the guys got back, we headed to the golf course to play 9 holes. I had a couple good holes, but overall it was a fun time! After golf, we had some leftover lasagna and cake and then relaxed the rest of the night!
Saturday: My dad went golfing with hubby so my mom and I went to our local mall and I got a cute pair of brown riding boots from JC Penny! On sale and just what I had been looking for! My mom also got me a beautiful sterling silver necklace with my initial S on it from Bealls! We also went to some local shops where my mom got a pair of beautiful earrings! After shopping we headed back to base to have lunch and go for a walk outside. The guys were just getting back from golf so we relaxed a bit and then headed to the movies to see Morning Glory which was fabulous! Love Rachel McAdams! Then to dinner at a country club downtown.
Sunday: My dad and hubby went golfing again and my mom and I went to church then to the bx to get some gifts for my grandparents. We weren't feeling too well seeing all the food we had been eating so we relaxed the rest of the day and watched the SU basketball game as well as football! My dad made some pork loin and mashed potatoes for dinner and we all just visited and relaxed!
It was such a wonderful visit and nice to have people from home come visit and see our new home!! I am counting down the days until Christmas when I can see my sister, bro in law, grandparents, and the rest of my family and friends that i miss!!
You've been soooo busy! Seriously though, it sounds like you've had an amazing time with your parents! The winery sounded like it was super fun and so did all of the shopping you did! :)
